I, Francia Mileh, often see immigrants selling fruits and vegetables on street corners. At times, I see immigrants early in the morning. I often see a young child sitting on a chair or under a table so that the sun does not hit them. At the end of the day, I drive by the same street where the mother or father is still there. Most of the times, the kid sits there playing in the dirt or looking at a phone.
We are developing a program so that we can drop off books for all kids that have lack of access to books.
In 2022, it was reported that 1 in every 5 children don’t own a book, mostly due to poverty or reading is unrecognized in their environment. When you read, you are more aware of the knowledge and the world around you, it’s like exploring without moving. It makes you develop a better understanding of concepts and seeing things from a different view. When you can’t figure out what to do, why not read? Whenever I read and I get really into it, I often forget that I am reading because it feels like I am part of the book’s story. I get to see the adventure, what lives people have led, what they believed, and what their struggles were. Lots of kids are unable to buy books because they don’t have the money for it. They miss out on the experience of reading, and they should have the opportunity to own one.
We accept book donations. We accept picture books, chapter books, nature books, animal books, books for toddlers or teenagers, any type of book that somebody can use. We aim to give one to three books per child, if you have any books you don’t want or use, we would be happy if you donated it to us! Donating a book to somebody can have a huge impact on them, possibly be a life changer.
We hope that our books inspire kids to one day become teachers, social workers, business owners, lawyers, doctors, community organizers, elected officials and accomplish any dreams they have.
